What is VAL?

VAL is a test that detects values, that is, the convictions and beliefs that define what is important to the person and that provide the criteria for ordering one’s goals and evaluating one’s actions. They also provide indications on their compatibility/tuning with the organizational context of reference.

 

  • Composed of 17 five items to be ordered according to their degree of preference.
  • The VAlues is based on the Schwartz model which identifies a taxonomy of 10 values found at the cross-cultural level. It allows you to make previews on where people will allocate their resources and on the scenarios to which they will decide to expose themselves.

What Dimensions Does It Measure?

The structure of values, according to the Schwartz Model, can be summarized in two main axes:

  • Self-affirmation (personal interests) vs Self-Transcendence (well-being of others).
  • Openness to change vs Conservatism.

Application Areas

  • It can be used in selection, development, individual and group coaching, guidance and career counseling.

  • It can allow the recognition of the harmony between individual and organizational values and represent a good predictor of organizational engagement and involvement.
